Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji is committed to ensuring that landowners in the state can leverage their properties for financial gain. His administration is implementing significant land reforms designed to make land a bankable asset and foster an environment conducive to private investment.
During a courtesy visit from the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Governor Oyebanji highlighted the ongoing efforts to reform land administration. He envisions a future where Ekiti State's barren lands can be transformed into thriving commercial hubs through increased investor interest.
A key aspect of the reforms involves the digitization of the land system and the establishment of a cadastral database. This ambitious project, supported by Professor James Olaleye, aims to provide clear ownership and value for land assets. The Governor acknowledged the capital-intensive nature of this undertaking but stressed its necessity for the state's development.
Governor Oyebanji also emphasized the government's policy of providing compensation for any land acquired for development. He stated that the administration ensures fair compensation is paid to landowners, preventing the impoverishment of citizens during development initiatives.
Victor Alonge, President of NIESV, commended Governor Oyebanji's leadership, describing Ekiti State as a rapidly developing center of progress. He noted the Governor's initiatives in infrastructure, agriculture, industrialization, and welfare, which have garnered national recognition.
In recognition of these achievements, Governor Oyebanji was invested as a patron of the NIESV. Alonge stated that this honor aligns with the institution's constitution, which designates state governors as patrons. The NIESV expressed its readiness to partner with the Ekiti State government in areas such as policy formulation, land administration, asset management, and housing development, offering its professional services based on global best practices.
