Tinubu Inaugurates NRS Headquarters, Urges Trust and Accountability

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, officially commissioned the new corporate headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in Abuja. The inauguration marked a significant step in the administration's fiscal policy and tax reform agenda.

During his keynote address, President Tinubu charged the NRS to embody trust, ensure fairness, and demonstrate government accountability and responsiveness in its operations. He stressed that the Service must earn the confidence of Nigerians at home and respect abroad through transparent and equitable revenue administration.

The Nigeria Revenue Service was established following the passage of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025. These reforms, which generated considerable debate in the National Assembly, expanded the agency's mandate beyond traditional tax collection to include the coordination of non-tax revenue, service delivery, governance architecture, and compliance.

The new headquarters, described by NRS chief Zacch Adedeji, is a modern three-tower complex designed to house over 3,000 personnel. This facility is considered essential operational infrastructure for modernizing fiscal administration in Nigeria. The agency currently operates with over 18,000 personnel globally and is responsible for revenue legislation and its implementation.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who was represented by the Minister of State, Taiwo Oyedele. Guan Shuai, the Managing Director of CCECC Nigeria, was also present.

A documentary titled “The Journey to NRS” was showcased, chronicling the transformation from the previous revenue agency structure to the new institution. NRS Executive Chairman Zacch Adedeji highlighted the commissioning as a milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s revenue administration, expanding the tax base, and improving service delivery.
